Cesky Krumlov

Český Krumlov is a pocked-sized Prague, a town of historical heritage crowned by a spectacular castle, and centred on an elegant old town square. Renaissance and baroque buildings enclose the meandering arc of the Vltava river, housing riverside cafés and bars. The center of the city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and well deserves the designation.

The town lays on crossroads between the Czech, Austrian, Bavarian and Northern Italian lands. The influence of different cultures that have left their mark on the town and Castle with brushstrokes of the Italian Renaissance is strongly visible. At the end of 17th century, during the reign of House of Eggenberg, the Castle Baroque Theatre was built and the Castle Gardens were renovated. Under the rule of House of Schwarzenberg, Český Krumlov gained its Baroque appearance. Highlights include a number of well-preserved religious sites, including the Minorite Monastery and the exquisite Church of St. Vitus, along with a number of interesting art galleries and museums such as Egon Schiele museum.

The State Castle of Cesky Krumlov ranks among the most important sights in the central Europe. It is the second in extent only to the Hradčany castle complex of Prague. The site consists of 40 buildings and palaces, five castle courts, and a park. The castle also preserves its baroque theatre with original stage machinera, scenery and props.

The town is surrounded by nature - Hilly, green countryside are perfect for many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, golf, canoeing and others. The Lipno Dam and protected forests of Blanský les and the Šumava National Park are all within easy reach. About 10 kilometres from Krumlov is one of Bohemia's oldest monasteries, Zlatá Koruna. About 30 km from Krumlov is the Hluboka Castle, established in the twelfth century and later remodelled in imitation of Windsor Castle.
