Wild Šumava

Fragrant forests and meadows, valleys lost at the end of the world, bottomless mud pits, glacial lakes and horizons full of mountains and hills - this is Sumava, the largest forest complex in Central Europe. Endless forests hide a sea of stone, primeval forests, peat bogs, springs that are the primary sources of rivers, and other natural uniqueness.

The majesty of the mountains is guarded by beautiful castles (Rožmberk, Velhartice), and chateaux (Hluboká nad Vltavou). Unique architectural jewels are definitely the Vyšší Brod and Zlatá Koruna monasteries, and the remains of the original historic folk architecture buildings in the town of Volary - 14 timbered Alpine-style houses which we cannot fail to mention. Exceptional technical monuments also include two shipping canals, thanks to which the trees of the Bohemian woods can be transported from the mountains to the inland. Today, there is an attractive marked trail going through one of the settlements with a nearly 400m long water tunnel.

Welcome to the Bohemian Forest!
