Wellness with a view of the cliff town
Sandstone towers on Zlatá stezka
The most beautiful views from a bicycle seat
What is included
Romantic, dramatic and secret – such are the cliff nooks of one of the most frequently visited areas of CHKO Bohemian Paradise, the Hruboskalsko natural reservation. The vast, sandstone cliff town is dominated by Chateau Hrubá Skála, built in the 14th century by Hynek of Valdštejn on two steep 50 m high cliffs. The chateau burned three times, rebuilding in the 19th century destroyed all of the Renaissance and Gothic ceilings. In the days of social realism, it was devastated by a union sanatorium. Yet despite this, you can find in the chateau spaces a stylish 4-star hotel with wellness procedure, a chateau restaurant with a view terrace and salons created for social gatherings.
The strategically situated chateau serves as an excellent starting point for trips, whether on foot the first day or by bike on the second day. We go walking through the Golden Path of Czech Paradise, all the way to Valdštejn Castle, from the cliff lookouts we view the highest and best-known tower Kapelník, Taktovka, Maják, Dračí zub or Dračí věž. On the second day we can look forward to a bicycle tour livened up by a picnic out in nature.
1. day
10:00 transfer to Chateau Hrubá Skála by car/minibus, a 3-hour tour of the cliff town, wellness  L D
After arriving at Chateau Hrubá Skála and getting settled into a luxury historical room we needn’t hurry, and we can enjoy the time until lunch with a view of the cliff town and the chateau courtyard or from the chateau tower lookout. After lunch at the chateau restaurant, we spend the afternoon on a 3-hour hike of the cliff town. From the chateau we set off along the crest path lined with a red tourist sign to Valdštejn, the oldest castle in Czech Paradise. On the way, we’ll be stopping at several lookouts, from where we can admire the harmonic countryside of Czech Paradise interwoven by a network of valleys, canyons, ravines and cliff towers up to 60 m high, or the ruins of Trosky Castle. Valdštejn is a uniquely preserved cliff castle, and in the event of interest, we can also view the castle interiors.
From Valdštejn, we continue on along the blue tourist path to the cliffs around Čertova ruka all the way to Lázně Sedmihorky. Unfortunately, these famous water-curative spas, famous as early as in the 19th century, are now closed, but we can taste the mineral water in springs located near the grounds.
The closing ascent to Chateau Hrubá Skála leads through Myší díra, a long and narrow passage through the cliff rift. Route length: 9 km, ascending 210m, descending 210 m
After dinner, it’ll be the perfect time for a 2-hour visit to the chateau wellness. There’ll be a choice of either a sea ritual in a steam bath or a honey ritual in a sauna.

2. day
6-hour bicycle tour with a picnic, transfer to Prague L
After a hearty breakfast, we set off on a cycle tour which takes us from Chateau Hrubá Skála, through the Podtrosecká valley and the Vesec memorial reservation, all the way to Kost Castle. The village Vesec presents a uniquely preserved set of curbed settlements with mostly tier houses mostly from the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The village is among the best-known and most valuable sets of folk architecture in the Czech Lands.
Another point of interest on our route is Kost Castle, which is one of the best-preserved Gothic castles in the Czech Lands. From Kost Castle, we head off on narrow little roads and terrain, via the village Vyskeř and Kacanovy, back to Chateau Hrubá Skála. On the way there’s a picnic prepared for us out in nature, where we can enjoy an undisturbed lunch, the natural surroundings and the quiet of the cliffs.
