What is included

The morning journey by car/minibus towards Beroun town will take less than one hour. We start our trekking by following the trail blazed in blue. After a 3km walk we reach the village of Svatý Jan pod Skalou, lying amidst a magnicifent karst scenery. We visit the Benedictine Monastery famous for its legend of St. Ivan, a hermit who lived in the local travertine cave.

The nature trail rising behind the monastery leads us to the cross on top of the cliff with a magnificient view. After a few more kilometres hike, a delicious lunch will be served in the local restaurant “Under the Dragon's Rock“ near Karlštejn castle. A guided tour of the castle with a visit to the Chapel of the Holy cross follows. For the end of the tour, we experience a scenic 30min train ride along the banks of poetic Berounka river. 

8:00 pick up at your hotel, departure by car/minivan to the vicinity of Beroun, centre of Czech karst region                                 

Český kras (Czech Karst) is an exceptional territory for its geology and stratigraphy of Silurian and Devonian periods.  It is the largest limestone region in Bohemia full of caves, preserved extensive areas of rocky steppe, forest steppe and deciduous forest communities.

 

9:30-13:00 open – air museum Solvay’s quarry, village Sv. Jan pod skalou, nature trail over Bubovické waterfalls to Karlstejn castle                                                     
 
Heading to the village of Svatý Jan pod Skalou, lying amidst a magnicifent karst scenery, we make a short stop in Solvay’s quarry to learn about history of limestone mining. The nature trail continues up to a viewpoint on the cliff with  a breathtaking views of czech karst scenery. After short descent  to the village we visit the Benedictine Monastery famous for its legend of St. Ivan, a hermit who lived in the local travertine cave. We follow Karlštejn nature trail for  another 6km admiring many beautiful places such as the Bubovické waterfalls or 350 years old oak tree. The 10km trail is of medium strenuousness with a few steep ascents and descents.
13:00-17:00 lunchtime, Karlštejn castle visit, return ride to Prague                                                                                                                   
Delicious 3 course lunch will be served in the local restaurant “Pod dračí skálou“ near Karlštejn castle. A guided tour of the castle with a visit to the Chapel of the Holy cross follows. Last walk of this day is easy descent from the castle through the picturesque village towards the train station for about 1,5km . We experience a scenic 30min train ride along the banks of poetic Berounka river on the way back to Prague city centre.
